Ali Breland of Mom Jones writes about how Amazon.com Inc. makes use of aggressive public relations techniques with the reporters who cowl the corporate.
Breland writes, “However of the dozen journalists I spoke with for this story, most of whom declined to be recognized out of concern for skilled repercussions, all recalled instances Amazon’s press staff had engaged in manipulative and typically deceitful habits. In response to these writers and editors, and my very own expertise reporting on the corporate, Amazon’s comms staff readily employs these rarer, bare-knuckle PR techniques. The last word end result isn’t simply that reporters have a tougher time writing tales. Some could also be deterred from writing on the corporate in any respect. And if those who do are deceived and unduly influenced, then by extension the general public is as properly.
“Except for Cameron, no less than two reporters recalled moments once they felt Amazon’s press staff had outright lied to them. Nearly all the journalists advised me they discovered that Amazon press relations was both probably the most or among the many most clawing and misleading company communications staff that they’d handled of their work.
“‘Amazon is the one firm I’ve handled that has straight lied to me,’ stated one tech author, recalling situations when Amazon boasted of warehouse security pointers in ways in which journalists who had spoken with rank-and-file workers had discovered to not be true.”
